Q: Why can't I simply break a CD by hand, or microwave it?
  • You can, but breaking a CD can be messy and dangerous due to sharp fragments. More importantly, you create e Waste whenever you physically break a disc. Data security is another issue, because the pieces can be re-assembled and your data recovered by Data Recovery Experts. Microwaving is bad for your microwave due to metal arcing, as well as toxic fumes (would you reheat food in there after a CD-R releases all those metal sparks and plastics fumes?). Also, since the sparking patterns are random, your CD may not be securely destroyed.
  • There are many other ways to destroy a CD-R, which results in e Waste. The Disc Eraser is designed to be the quickest, safest, and most environmentally friendly method to securely destroy a CD-R. In addition, it's also the FIRST and ONLY disc destruction device that prevents e Waste and promotes recycling!
Q: Can I re-use the CD once I erase it with the Disc Eraser?
  • No. Typical CD-Rs are permanent. Once the disc is erased, no data can be retrieved nor written on the disc. This is to prevent data and identity theft. Besides, with blank CD-Rs costing less than 10 cents and DVD blanks at 30 cents, it makes no sense to re-use one. Recycle instead!
  • Alternatively, you can use CD-RW type discs, but they are much more expensive and have slow reading and writing speed, and don't retain data as well as the CD-R.
Q: How is it different than just taking a key and scraping it across a disc?
  • Scraping with a key or sharp blade can be dangerous & messy, and is less effective. You would need many scrapes to disable the CD, and it wouldn't be as data secure.
  • The Disc Eraser is a PRECISE ALIGNMENT TOOL that imparts an Optical-Strip through ALL REGIONS on a disc (L/I, L/O, & Data regions) to thoroughly render the disc UNPLAYABLE. This would be difficult to do on your own.
  • DON'T BE FOOLED! This method is much more effective than simply scratching the CD with a sharp object or blade - which can be easily corrected by ECC, polished, and restored. The Disc Eraser's new technology was verified by a Data Recovery company.

Q: Is there a magnet that erases the disc?
  • No. CDs use OPTICAL laser technology to burn and read data on the disc. Therefore, a magnet would not work as it has in the past (VHS tapes, Floppy Disks, Cassette tapes, etc...)
The Disc Eraser features the newest optical technology to erase any unwanted CD or DVD.
Q: How does it work?
  • Instructions: Open and align disc with Disc Eraser (DVDs-bottom side up, CDs-any side). Firmly push down against a table surface to sandwich the disc, and pull slider quickly. An optically disruptive strip will result on the disc surface, rendering it unreadable. You can now use the disc as a coaster or dispose it inside a plastics recycling bin without fear of anyone reading the disc!

Q: How many times can the Disc Eraser be used? How long does it last?
  • The Disc Eraser has been tested beyond 1000 times. We simply do not have enough discs or the time to test the maximum usage of the Disc Eraser, and encourage users to use it as often as they can, making it the most cost-effective solution for unwanted discs.
